Breed: Lab/mix

Facility Placement: Liberty High School

Serving: Counseling Department

Meet our sweet Bear!  He is a two year old Lab/mix.  We like to refer to Bear as an "All American" dog because noone can pin point exactly what breeds he is crossed with!  Bear was rescued from Kansas City Kansas Animal Services and adopted through the Humane Society of Greater Kansas City.

When the trainer saw Bear at the shelter she was instantly drawn to him.  Bear was being such a good boy, calmly approaching the gate with his tail wagging!  After taking him outside on leash an spending some alone time with him she knew he would be a great fit for our program.  Bear's only interest was recieving affection from the trainer! He leaned into her and sat nicely for petting.

Since coming to WBF Bear has contiuned to win over the trainer with his kind heart and gentle nature.  Bear is bascially a 91 lb teddy bear..hince how he came to receive his name! There is no question he is going to make some lucky person very happy!

Post Placement Update

Since completion of the Operation Schoolhouse program, Bear has moved on to serve the students of Liberty High School alongside his pal Bentley! Bear spends most of his time with his handler, Kris Boyle, within the counseling department. He provides emotional support for students with anxiety, depression, experiencing or having experienced trauma and students who are in crisis. Kris says "Bear offers comfort, support and love to staff and students on a daily basis. The impact has been remarkable. Both students and staff look forward to coming to school to spend time with Bear."  Both Bear and Bentley have brought so much joy to everyone at LHS and will continue to do so for future students to come!

Our Other Dogs

Ivan is a one year old, Plott Hound/Pointer mix.  He was found as a stray outside Belton, MO and was taken to the shelter but his family never came for him.

Janie is a yellow lab mix about two years old. She was found wandering on the beach by Jacksonville Animal Control.

Jonah is a 1 year old Shepherd/mix rescued through the Liberty Animal Shelter.

Josh is a 2 year old male yellow Labrador Retriever.  He came as an owner surrender.  His owner died unexpectedly, and his owner's brother couldn't keep the dog so he donated him.

Kiya is a 1 year old female mix.  We don't really know what she is, probably some mix of lab, doberman, and collie.  She was rescued from animal control as a young puppy by the London Sanctuary.

Lexi is a 2 year old female chocolate lab. She was donated as a puppy. Lexi loves to play ball and take long naps on the couch, a perfect combination for any warrior.

Meet Miss Mave!  She is a spunky one-year-old Weimaraner who is full of personality and sass!

We received Mave at a very young age of only 2 months.  Everyone here at Warriors' Best Friend has enjoyed watching her journey growing up in the program! Mave is very intelligent and attentive.  As soon as she hears the trainer grab the leash, she comes barreling down the stairs and sits patiently as the trainer puts it on! Mave is what we like to call an "all arounder".  She is sweet to all living things and just wants to be near her person at all times.

Mave loves playing with other dogs! One of her best friends is Boscoe, an American Bulldog/mix.  They can play for hours wrestling and sharing toys.  Every now and then we catch them chewing on the same bone! They are truly two peas in a pod! As for the cats around the facility, she is still working up the courage to say hi!

Meet Max!  He is a handsome one and a half year old Boxer/Terrier mix.  He was born and raised in the shelter while patiently waiting to find his forever home.
